Sanderling Nature Center

The Friends of Kohler-Andrae State Park play an important role in the operation of the park’s Sanderling Nature Center. Located along the central shore area of the park, amidst the dunes overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan, the Center is one of the park’s most popular attractions.
The Sanderling Nature Center has many interesting displays in its exhibit area, including some on the park’s history, the surrounding Great Lakes fishery, wildflowers, many taxidermy displays of the park’s animals and other subjects for visitors to enjoy. Live animal and plant exhibits are maintained during the season, and new displays are always being constructed for the interpretive facility.
The center has an auditorium and frequent programs with guest speakers. Most utilize the auditorium’s multi-media equipment, including video & computer projection, movies, photo-slides and audio playback. Also accessible from inside the nature center is a stairway to an observation deck on top of the building . It offers a beautiful panorama of Lake Michigan and also has a mounted pair of binoculars.
